Only 8,000 of Indonesia’s 17,000 islands are inhabited, but the island nation’s residents still speak more than 300 languages between them. This mesmerizing destination is most famous for Bali, the quintessential beach vacation spot, but there is much more to Indonesia. From Komodo dragons to jungles with elephants, orangutans and tigers, it’s also home to beguiling wildlife. While sprawling cities, like the glitzy capital of Jakarta or the city of Yogyakarta, famed for gamelan music and traditional puppetry, offer a cultural aspect.
